Tot School

About a month ago I had been noticing lots of my favorite blogs starting to do school with their little toddlers. It really motivated me so I have been doing different themes each week with Jacob and having our own little school time. He has LOVED it! It gives us something to do that isn't just watching cartoons. I've been able to notice him learning already. It is fun to be able to use my teaching degree at home, even if I'm not in the public schools. Here are only some of the few fun things we have done. We always read some books and sing songs.

This week our theme was "O is for Owl and we worked on the color green". We made an "O is for Owl" page. We made a puppet owl. We played with green jell-o in the bath. That was a huge HIT! Jacob was talking about that all day. The bathtub was covered in jell-o by the end. We made a paper plate turtle and frog. I made some visuals for the song "5 green and speckled frogs" He Loves these songs with hands on pictures. He has been starting to sing along a lot more too. We also read Green Eggs and Ham about a hundred times.
another week was Y is for Yellow. I didn't have a lot of pictures this week. We dyed pasta and made a necklace. We made Banana ice cream. Made an alphabet page "Y is for Yellow". We made a bumble bee out of his footprint. I made visuals for the song "5 little monkeys swinging in a tree". I also made this file folder color matching game. Jacob can match all of the colors and can name most of them.
This week our theme was Apples. We even made some homemade applesauce in our crock-pot. It was really good! This was a fun song called "5 little apples" It practiced one-to-one correspondence which Jacob actually understood.

  1. We went to visit nate and kristin last month and went to that same pumkin patch- it was soooo cute! I love your idea for toddler school! I agree that is much more beneficial than cartoons.
