Camping in the midwest
We decided to go camping a few days ago. Lets just say it was a little bit different than Utah/Idaho camping that we are used to. There were swarms of gnats and bugs that attacked us even after 10 coats of bug spray. We lived in our tent for a little while until it got darker. Then when we wanted to cook hot dogs the wood was so wet from raining the day before that we only got a big flame going when we poured gas on the fire. We barely had enough time to cook our dinner and eat a few marshmallows and then it was out. They were delicious though. It has been a really wet summer. There has been tons of flooding all over. After Jacob was in bed we were wandering around and found a toad and caught it to bring it home with us. That was Scott's favorite part. We went to bed and put our food inside a little cabin that was part of our campsite. The place we stayed at is a church girls camp so they did have really nice facilities. Including bathrooms. YAY! So in the middle of the night we started hearing animals and realized that they were raccoons trying to get our food. So we had to get up and move our food to the car so no other animals came trying to attack us. Kind of scary. Scott and I didn't sleep too well and we missed the camping that we were used to. However, Jacob had so much fun. He loved running around and picking up sticks, rocks, and bugs. He didn't seem to mind the bugs on his head. He slept perfectly through the night and didn't wake up once. At least we know we can take him camping anytime we want.
